Artist's Description
Imagine the scene, it’s 4.30 am, I’m on a high cliff above Port Na Ba on the Isle of Mull. The seals on the rocks in the Loch are emitting an eerie howling noise, the cuckoos are cooking their coos and one of the sheep is coughing like a 40 a day veteran! The alarm went off a quarter of an hour ago and it was a real test of willpower to drag myself out of a nice warm bed. Now I’m up and out in the early morning light, seeing the sky grow ever pinker behind the Isle of Rum, I now know why I’m a landscape photographer and it’s still an hour before sunrise. There’s very little wind and it’s not even cold and all seems peaceful in my world. I hang on an hour until the sun rises over the Ardnamurchan hills and then it’s back to bed until breakfast time when I can become a holiday maker again until the evening.
About Richard Burdon
My work is a mixture of both colour and monochrome landscape photographs, plus a selection of creative images of the natural world which express artistic impressions of the subject. I am a big believer that artistically less is more and feel that the minimalist nature of my images transcends photography and moves into the realm of fine art. From time to time we all say “I can’t see the wood for the trees”, but can we really see? We live in a beautiful land, but few of us rarely actually see and appreciate this beauty. My photography is dedicated to the art within the landscape, for me the stark simplicity of a lone tree in a field of snow is a work of art itself.
